UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned Undercover Angel (pictured) producer RDF Television to produce a four-part docuseries set to chronicle the experiences of gender transitioning.

The tentatively titled Trans Mission will look to examine the social and cultural aspects of gender transitioning by shadowing a group of individuals over a two-year period as they prepare to transition from one gender to another.

The hour-long series will document each individual’s personal stories and their decisions to move forward with the sex reassignment surgery, as well as the medical consultations and procedural challenges that follow.

RDF’s Andrew Anderson and Daniel Fromm serve as executive producers on the series, which was commissioned by Channel 4’s deputy head of features Alex Menzies.

“The bravery, honesty, wit and warmth of the people whose stories we will be telling are a real source of inspiration,” said Menzies in a statement. “To be able to give a small section of Britain’s transgender community the opportunity to share their personal experiences over such a long filming period is truly unique.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on an often misrepresented world, allowing those at the very heart of it to tell their own story,” added Anderson.
