Discovery Communications-owned cable net Science Channel is readying the premiere of the docuseries Droned from Los Angeles-based Reckognition Productions.

The series, which is scheduled to broadcast Friday (July 22) at 6 p.m. EST/PST, will follow Fort Lauderdale-based drone customization firm Pigeon Vision and explore the impact its fledgling technology has had on the world, from search and rescue operations and predator drones shooting paintballs, to tracking and identifying wildlife and first-person view (FPV) drone racing. The series is shot on location in Mexico, Barbados, the Bahamas, Canada and the U.S.

The 10-part program will feature such high-profile clients as actor, producer and director Tyler Perry, Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya, magician Criss Angel, Jackass‘ Jason “Wee Man” Acuna, 98 Degrees band member Jeff Timmons, former NFLer Ryan Hoag, social media celebrity Brock O’Hurn and parkour athletes Jesse La Flair, Cory DeMeyers and Marcus Gustafsson.

In an exclusive clip shared with realscreen, lead drone pilot Dani dons FPV goggles as she enters into her first FPV racing competition through the Drone Sports Association – which requires her to build and test a specialized FPV racing drone – in Tempe, Arizona. The episode will follow Dani’s journey to qualify for the U.S. Nationals, to be broadcast nationally on ESPN next month, while revealing the difficulties behind FPV drone racing and its burgeoning market.

Reckognition’s Erich Recker, Fred Paik and Ryan Haake serve as executive producers on the series alongside AirVuz’s Mike Israel, Jeff Timmons and Dan Edwards.

  • Droned premieres July 22 with back to back episodes at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. EST/PST on Science Channel.
