Discovery Channel is partnering with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for the multi-platform series Cal Fire, coproduced by Triage Entertainment and Third Force Productions.

The department has deployed all of its 7,000 firefighters to tackle the state’s most destructive fire season ever, and is preparing for the fast-approaching Santa Ana wind season in Southern California.

Camera crews have followed frontline firefighters across California — from Shasta in the North to San Diego in the South — for the past three months, employing such technology as fire-resistant helmet camera, to offer an immersive perspective on this year’s fire season.

Crews also had to undergo “Red Flag” training and were equipped with special protective gear in order to accompany the firefighters on the fire lines.

The series, slated for Q4 2020, will also delve into the stories behind the Cal Fire team.

Pat McGee, Terence Wrong, and Stu Schreiberg are executive producers; Aysu Saliba is co-executive producer. For Discovery Channel, John Slaughter and Christina Bavetta are executive producers and Greg Wolf is coordinating producer.
