Discovery’s TLC, the network behind popular family fare such as Outdaughtered, has added another member to its slate of unscripted series that turns the nuclear family model on its head.

This time it’s The Blended Bunch (pictured), which follows a newlywed couple — Erica and Spencer Shemwell — who met in an online widower support group, fell in love and got married. Now, the couple live with their blended family of 11 children.

The series will explore shifting dynamics between new step-siblings as well as larger issues such as adoption, as the step-parents live their day-to-day lives with their large brood which is all under the age of 13.

“Our family series are a cornerstone of programming at TLC and these days, the word family has expanded to mean many things,” Howard Lee, president of TLC, said in a statement. “We are constantly evolving and the Shemwells are a wonderful reflection of the varied families in today’s world.”

The Blended Bunch premieres March 16 and is produced by Critical Content for TLC. The series will also stream on Discovery+

Elsewhere in Discovery news, MotorTrend is shifting gears with its latest series, Motor MythBusters, a spin-off of Beyond Productions’ original series MythBusters, which was a ratings boon for years.

The new show promises to combine “science with the street” to uncover the truth behind automotive myths. Featuring former MythBusters alum Tony Belleci, mechanic Faye Hadley and race car pro Bisi Ezerioha, the eight-episode series is set to debut in the third quarter of 2021.

Motor MythBusters is also produced by Aussie prodco Beyond Productions, which has offices in LA and London.

“This spinoff series is a marriage made in heaven,” said Beyond Productions president, John Luscombe. “The original, long-running MythBusters show attracted a legion of dedicated and ever-curious fans and became a classic. Bringing our familiar scientific method approach to a series dedicated to all-things automotive is an exciting extension to an iconic franchise and I can think of no better partner for this new series than MotorTrend.”

Ryan Senter and Luscombe are executive producers for Beyond Productions along with Belleci. Joshua C. Berkley is executive producer for MotorTrend. Mike Suggett is head of programming and development for MotorTrend Group.
