NBC is joining forces with Grammy-winning pop superstar Shakira on the dance challenge series Dancing with Myself, which aims to take advantage of the social media dance trends.

The new competition series is produced by Irwin Entertainment, and was inspired by the popularity of dance challenges on social media, which Shakira herself contributed to earlier this year with her viral dance to the song “Girl Like Me.”

The series will see contestants compete in dance challenges designed and demonstrated by the show’s celebrity creators, including Shakira. The competitors have a brief time to learn the new routines in isolation pods, while adding their own touches before performing for a live audience. Shakira and her judging panel give feedback and encouragement, but it’s the studio audience that will decide who wins the title Best Dancer of the Night and the cash prize that goes with it.

Dancing with Myself is executive produced for Irwin Entertainment by John Irwin, Dave Kuba, Eli Frankel and Ben Thursby-Palmer, with Jaime Levine and Shakira also serving as executive producers. The series is licensed by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group.

“Shakira is one of the most influential icons in the industry with an incredible presence and platform to inspire her devoted fanbase to incorporate dance into their lives,” said John Irwin, founder and president of Irwin Entertainment in a statement. “The series amplifies the familiar, much-loved format with a fresh twist as it’s the first ever to leap into today’s internet dance craze. Dancing with Myself is sure to be a universal experience that moves viewers of all ages, everywhere.”
