Discovery UK has ordered two unscripted dating series, set to air via the Discovery+ streaming service.

The greenlights include a reboot of Beauty and the Geek, a Fox format created in 2005, adapted in more than 20 markets and distributed internationally by Banijay.

The reboot, to be produced by Banijay label Initial, will feature UK TV and radio presenters Matt Edmondson and Mollie King (pictured) as hosts. Participants, including eight “beauties” and eight “self-proclaimed geeks,” will be paired and put through a variety of challenges until one pair remains to take the cash prize of £50,000.

Discovery+ will also be home to Zodiac Island (w/t), a 10 x 60-minute dating series produced by Barefaced TV (part of STV Studios) which sees three astrologers picking matches among 12 cynical single participants, and then sending them to live during one lunar cycle on a Greek island to see if their fates will be determined by the stars.

The series were ordered by Discovery UK’s Clare Laycock, commissioned by Charlotte Reid and executive produced by Steven Fullagar for Discovery+. Executive producer for Beauty and the Geek is Jessica Thomas at Initial, with casting for the series to be overseen by Nicole Taylor. Zodiac Island (w/t) will be executive produced by Rosie Bray and Lucy Golding.

Beauty and the Geek has enjoyed huge international success, and we are delighted to bring it back to the UK and give Discovery+ viewers access to another hit reality show,” said Laycock in a statement. “We are also over the moon to confirm details on our brand-new dating format, Zodiac Island. This is a unique twist on the traditional dating show, combining a search for real love with a passion for astrology.”
