HGTV will switch it up from looking at the most beautiful homes with its new five-part event series, Ugliest House in America, which premieres on January 3 and runs daily through January 7.
The series is hosted by comedian, actress and home design enthusiast Retta (Parks and Recreation). It features tours of 12 properties nominated by homeowners who believe their design-challenged home is one of the worst in the country. Retta will give her feedback on each home, and comment on failed flips and gaudy designs.
Based on its ugly appearance, poor functionality and bad design choices, one home will be deemed the “ugliest house in America” by HGTV, with the network awarding the homeowners a $150,000 renovation completed by HGTV star Alison Victoria.
Ugliest House in America is produced by Big Fish Entertainment. Executive producers are Dan Cesareo, Lucilla D’Agostino, Jordana Starr, Robert Zimmerman and John Brimhall.
“I am certain these were 12 of the ugliest houses in America. Trust. I had to walk through them all,” said Retta in a release. “There were so many stunningly bad design choices. Why would someone want an oversized statue of Poseidon in their driveway? I don’t know, but God bless. I was just happy and, to be honest, relieved to help one family get the home of their dreams.”
