HBO Max is adding two unscripted series to its roster — with help from ITV Entertainment; Greg Daniels, screenwriter, producer, director and co-creator of Parks and Recreation and King of the Hill; and Dr. Brené Brown.
The WarnerMedia streamer has greenlit an unscripted series featuring Dr. Brown (pictured), Atlas of the Heart, inspired by her book of the same name. The series, which has received an eight-episode order, is billed as “an interactive journey through the range of emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human.”
Atlas of the Heart is executive produced by Brown for Weird Lucy Productions alongside Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager, Barb Bialkowski and Jared Morell for Den of Thieves. Meaghan Rady will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
“By bringing Dr. Brown’s extensive research to life through film, television, and pop culture, we are able to demonstrate deep connection and insight that will resonate with our viewers,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, in a statement.
Meanwhile, My Mom, Your Dad is a dating format created by Daniels, who also adapted The Office for the U.S., and daughter Haley. The premise: single parents are nominated by their college-kids to take “a second chance at love.” The parents move into a house together while being secretly monitored via hidden camera rigs by their adult children.
The project marks the first foray into unscripted for Greg and Haley Daniels.
Insecure‘s Yvonne Orji will join the series as host, while Sam Dean (HBO’s FBoy Island, Netflix’s Love Is Blind) serves as showrunner.
“Created by a father-daughter duo who represent the two generational perspectives in the show, the concept of My Mom, Your Dad is heartfelt, hilarious, and cringeworthy,” said Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president, Non-Fiction and Live-Action Family, HBO Max, in a statement. “Greg’s comedic brilliance with Haley’s original ideas, combined with the unscripted expertise of ITV Entertainment and the multi-talented Yvonne Orji is sure to result in highly addictive viewing.”
Executive producers are Greg Daniels and Haley Daniels, David Eilenberg, Simon Thomas, Bernie Schaeffer and showrunner Sam Dean.
Airdates have not been announced for either series.
