Netflix has ordered two seasons of the reality dating series Sexy Beasts, to be produced by All3Media’s Lion TV and narrated by comedian Rob Delaney.

The first 6 x 30-minute season will premiere globally July 21, with a second six-episode season dropping later this year. Lion TV previously produced Sexy Beasts for BBC3 in 2014 and for A&E in 2015, and the format sold internationally to locations like China, South Korea and Lithuania, as well as Russia.

Filmed in the UK last year, the Netflix series (pictured) sees single men and women brought together with their real looks completely hidden, as they’re transformed into animals and creatures using Hollywood movie prosthetics.

Each episode will feature a new single “picker” searching for true love based purely on personality. They will date three potential love matches, all in full prosthetic makeup. Once the picker has chosen their match, everyone’s real faces will be revealed.

Over the two seasons, 48 makeup designs were created by prosthetic artist Kristyan Mallet (Mission Impossible, The Theory of Everything).

Sexy Beasts is executive produced by creator Simon Welton (Horrible Histories, Big Brother), Lion TV’s director of entertainment. Sarah Clarke (Body Fixers) is series producer, with Sam Campbell (The Circle) serving as series director.

Welton said in a release: “Making Sexy Beasts for Netflix has been an incredibly exciting process. With an international cast featuring some truly brilliant characters, a host of prosthetics which look extraordinary in 4K and with Rob Delaney narrating, the viewers are in for a real treat.”

Nick Catliff, Lion TV’s chief content officer, and Richard Bradley, chief creative officer, said in a joint statement: “Sexy Beasts is a big step in the evolution of Lion’s relationship with Netflix. Last year we made the global hit feature documentary Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb and this year it’s Sexy Beasts which is fun, frivolous and totally original which is just what we all need during these strange times. It’s great to be working with a streamer that supports genuine creativity and risk-taking across the genres. Making an ambitious transatlantic dating show through the pandemic was a massive challenge for us all at Lion but we are thrilled with the way it’s turned out.”

The news was first reported by Variety.
