Talent and literary agent ICM Partners has signed Raoul Peck (pictured), director of the Oscar-shortlisted documentary I Am Not Your Negro, to its talent roster.

Calling him “one of the great auteur filmmakers of our time,” the talent agency noted in a media statement Peck’s ability to work “seamlessly” between documentaries, narrative features and television.

Peck’s acclaimed film I Am Not Your Negro is based on James Baldwin’s unfinished book, Remember This House, which chronicles the lives and successive assassinations of his friends Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Narrated by acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson, the film also looks at how the racial and economic inequality of the 1950s and 1960s has shaped attitudes about race in present day.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received the People’s Choice Documentary Award. ICM Partners-repped the sale of the documentary and closed a deal with Magnolia Pictures who is releasing the film Feb.3 and rolling out a full Academy Awards campaign. Amazon Studios has picked up the SVOD rights for the film in a deal with Magnolia.

Peck’s other documentaries include 1990’s Lumumba: Death of a Prophet, 200o’s Lumumba and 2013’s Fatal Assistance. His forthcoming period drama The Young Karl Marx is slated to host its world premiere at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival, scheduled for Feb. 9 to 19.

He served as jury member at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, is presently chair of the French National film school La Femis, was a scholar at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and is the subject of numerous retrospectives globally. In 2001, the Human Rights Watch Organization awarded him with the Irene Diamond Lifetime Achievement Award.

Peck continues to be represented by Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano.

Elsewhere, ICM has appointed Denise Draper as an agent in the international televisions and media department.

Prior to joining ICM, Denise served as an agent at Rebel Entertainment, with a focus on representing showrunners, executive producers, production companies and talent in the unscripted world.

Her clients include Danielle Medina and her production company Mad Fusion; producers of Bravo’s First Family of Hip Hop; the producers of Nat Geo Wild’s Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet; Lucky Dog Films; and Michelle Schiefen, showrunner of Bravo’s Don’t Be Tardy.
