BBC Studios, the commercial arm of British pubcaster BBC, is set to debut a number of new non-fiction series at its 45th annual Showcase event, including Silverback Films’ Earthshot: How to Save Our Planet and Expectation’s guessing game format This Is My House.

The 2021 event, running virtually from Feb. 22 to 24, will see independent British producers and BBC executives present TV projects to content buyers.

BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux and British writer, historian and broadcaster David Olusoga will offer masterclasses as part of this year’s agenda.

BBC director-general Tim Davie will discuss his vision in the run-up to the corporation’s centenary, while Charlotte Moore, BBC chief content officer, will discuss editorial trends and her Showcase slate highlights.

Genre sessions, including natural history, documentaries, science, history, popular factual and formats, will run throughout the event.

The five-parter Earthshot: How to Save Our Planet — produced by Silverback Films (A Perfect Planet) in conjunction with Prince William’s Earthshot Prize — centers on five ‘Earthshots,’ or simple environmental goals.

This Is My House, meanwhile, begins with four people declaring, “This is my house” — but only one is telling the truth. The other three are imposters attempting to convince the viewers and celebrity judges that everything in the house belongs to them. The format is created by Richard Bacon and Nick Weidenfeld and produced by Expectation for BBC1,

In The Forgotten Empire, Olusoga embarks on a journey to unearth an account of Britain’s place in the world, examining new aspects of the imperial story and encountering communities across the globe with a shared history. The series is an Uplands production for the BBC, in co-production with PBS and The Open University.

From BBC Studios’ Documentary Unit, In Ten Pictures re-examines the lives of six famous faces through 10 photographs that have come to define them, with each episode dedicated to a single figure.

Finally, previously announced natural history landmark series The Green Planet — billed as the Planet Earth of plants — will also be featured at the Showcase. The BBC Studios Natural History Unit series is co-produced by ZDF, Bilibili and The Open University for BBC1 and PBS.
